Caroline

Caroline is a compassionate but headstrong young woman whose ordinary life revolves around the Dublin café she runs with her fiancé, Jordie. Fiercely devoted to Jordie and her lifelong best friend Morgan, she is often willing to place herself in danger to protect the people she loves. After being pulled into a nightmarish realm of gods and monsters, Caroline discovers a mysterious ability to project herself across time and spiritually connect with those around her. Curious, outspoken and more courageous than she realises, she refuses to accept vague answers—even when the truth threatens everything she believes. However, her greatest strength is also her deepest flaw: when someone she loves is in danger, fear can drive her into impulsive decisions with devastating consequences.

Jordie

Jordie is a hardworking café owner whose quiet life with his fiancée, Caroline, has become the stability he desperately needs after a devastating family tragedy. Practical, loyal and fiercely protective, he instinctively places himself between Caroline and danger, even when he is terrified himself. After being trapped in a realm of gods and monsters, however, Jordie’s grief, insecurity and need for control are steadily intensified. His fear often emerges as anger, causing him to become increasingly suspicious, confrontational and resentful—particularly toward Caroline’s lifelong best friend, Morgan. Beneath his deteriorating state remains a fundamentally decent man who loves Caroline deeply and refuses to knowingly purchase his own survival at another person’s expense. Jordie’s story is ultimately a tragedy about a strong but wounded person being pushed beyond what his mind can endure.

Morgan

Morgan is a guarded and quietly compassionate young man whose closest bond is with his lifelong best friend, Caroline. Following a succession of near-fatal accidents, he has become increasingly withdrawn and distrustful of the outside world, hiding his pain behind dry humour, blunt observations and an outward calm that can be difficult to read. Although he often appears physically vulnerable, Morgan possesses an unnatural resilience and an instinctive understanding of danger that repeatedly sets him apart from the others. Inside the realm, locked gates open for him, its inhabitants react to his presence, and he navigates its horrors with a familiarity he refuses to explain. Fiercely loyal but deeply secretive, Morgan is determined to protect Caroline—even when doing so requires allowing her to misunderstand him. Beneath the frightened human exterior lies the unsettling suggestion that Morgan is not merely trapped within this nightmare, but somehow belongs at its very centre.

Anne

Anne is an independent and sharp-witted young woman who has placed her own life on hold to care for her terminally ill mother. Beneath her confident appearance and cutting sense of humour, she carries intense grief, guilt and a desperate refusal to accept that her mother is dying. After following the mysterious Luca into a realm of gods and monsters, Anne quickly learns to survive through observation, scepticism and self-reliance rather than trust. She is guarded without being heartless, capable of offering compassion even while concealing her own motives and fears. Curious, impulsive and unwilling to remain safely confined, Anne repeatedly ventures where she has been warned not to go, driven by a need to understand the realm and find a way to save the person she loves. Her journey is defined by grief and determination: a woman surrounded by impossible horrors who may risk everything rather than return home alone.

Stan / Satan

Stan is a charismatic and dangerously persuasive immortal who enters the human world disguised as the mysterious Luca. Amused by danger and rarely willing to reveal his true intentions, he treats manipulation like a game—using charm, half-truths and carefully constructed bargains to guide others toward choices that benefit him. Beneath his theatrical confidence, however, lies an ancient history with the ruler of the realm and emotions far more complicated than simple hatred. Stan can be calculating, selfish and disturbingly casual about the suffering of those who serve him, yet he is also capable of genuine affection, protectiveness and loyalty toward the few beings he considers family. Unpredictable and impossible to fully trust, Stan is both tempter and protector: a man whose warm smile can conceal either salvation or ruin.

Heebie

Heebie is the eldest and most calculating of Morpheus’s familiars, an unnaturally tall, eyeless creature whose permanent smile makes his intentions almost impossible to read. Quiet, observant and fiercely intelligent, he rarely wastes words or acts without purpose. As one of the realm’s principal guardians, Heebie enforces its laws with absolute loyalty and terrifying brutality, showing no mercy to anyone he considers a threat to Morpheus or the souls under their protection. Despite his monstrous appearance and cruel methods, he is not a mindless killer. Originally created to protect a vulnerable child, Heebie’s entire existence is rooted in guardianship, and his devotion to his family remains stronger than any independent ambition. Patient, disciplined and unsettlingly composed, Heebie is often the most dangerous presence in the room precisely because he never loses control.

Jeebie

Jeebie is a towering patchwork familiar whose immense strength and animalistic appearance conceal a fiercely emotional nature. Originally constructed from the strongest parts of a hundred demons to protect a vulnerable child, his first instinct was absolute guardianship. After being granted true life, that devotion developed alongside an intense curiosity and a hunger he struggles to control. Jeebie is deeply loyal to Morpheus and considers the realm his home, responding to threats against either with terrifying violence. Unlike his quieter brother Heebie, Jeebie is impulsive, unstable and openly confrontational, often allowing anger and appetite to overwhelm his judgement. Although dangerous to nearly everyone around him, beneath the monstrous brutality remains a devoted protector whose worst impulses are inseparable from his love for his family.

Lillabeth

Lillabeth is a living sculpture forged from three mythical metals, capable of reshaping her liquid body into almost anything she requires. Beneath her flawless chrome appearance lies a brutally literal mind: she speaks without tact, follows instructions precisely and treats violence with the same calm detachment as any ordinary task. Although her emotionless voice and rigid logic can make her appear mechanical, Lillabeth is fully alive and fiercely devoted to Morpheus, the other familiars and the souls under their protection. She can be unexpectedly helpful and dependable toward those she has been ordered to safeguard, but merciless toward anyone she identifies as a threat. Beautiful, powerful and unintentionally unsettling, Lillabeth occupies the uneasy space between perfect protector and remorseless executioner.

Dave

Dave is the Pumpkin King, a towering familiar formed from tangled roots, twisting vines and living flame. Cheerful, playful and seemingly childlike, he welcomes others with silly games, constant laughter and an enthusiasm that makes him appear harmless despite his monstrous form. Beneath that innocence, however, lies an ancient and immensely powerful guardian whose devotion to Morpheus and the realm is absolute. Dave can command plant life, reshape his body and grow to terrifying proportions, becoming violently unpredictable whenever his home or family is disrespected. Gentle with children and affectionate toward those he trusts, Dave embodies both the comforting wonder of autumn and the primal terror of nature turning against an intruder.
